About Me

My name is Valeria Kosymova, and I am an experienced Russian language teacher.

The Russian language is one of the greatest international languages, and in recent times interest in learning Russian has increased. About 20 million people study Russian in more than 90 countries. Learning Russian is a good way to broaden your outlook and cultural horizons (art, literature, science, culture).

I am a native Russian-speaker, born in Russia; I studied Russian Language and Russian Literature graduating from Irkutsk State University, Faculty of Russian Language and Literature in 1990.

I have extensive teaching experience both in the UK and abroad and have also worked as a private tutor for the last 15 years, drawing upon my multi-lingual teaching skills, tailoring delivery of my classes to suit and a broad range of learner’s specific needs

I have over 40 years of language teaching experience. I started my teaching career in 1978 after qualifying from Music College. I decided to broaden my teaching qualification and subject area by studying Russian Language and Literature. I also worked as a teacher of Russian language at Primary school (Poprad, Slovakia 1992-1995) and later at Agriculture Secondary School (Stara Lubovna, Slovakia 1995-2005).

I undertook in 1990-1994 a post-graduate course in General Physiology at the State University in Irkutsk. My science leader was professor Aseev Vladimir Grigorievich. I wrote a dissertation under his direction titled “Adaptation of Roma children to school”. I did the practical research in Slovakia in Poprad and district. I examined 200 Roma children and compared with 100 non-Roma Slovakian children aged 6-7. Each pupil who took part was given 10 psychological tests, concentrating on preparing for school. I also gave questionnaires to 45 teachers with long experience of teaching Roma children. When I completed the research I wrote several articles about the results which were published in Teachers’ magazines in Slovakia in 1994- 1995.

In 2005 I moved to London and worked freelance via agencies. I offer a wide range of individual, group and corporate Russian lessons in London, West Kent and North East Surrey. Additional teaching locations are possible subject to discussion and I can travel to where is convenient for you: to your work place or home.

I personally meet with students before starting the course and provide all the materials and training plans for my courses. I also offer tailor-made training in preparation for GCSE & A level exams to Edexel specification. 100% of my GCSE and A-Level students passed their exams and my other students all achieved what they set out to achieve.

I regularly attend seminars for Russian teachers in London to continue my professional development and as such I am able to offer up-to-date teaching methodologies to ensure learner success and satisfaction.
