Usually the motivations for learning Russian are business, career, travel in Russia, desire to
personally communicate with residents of Russia, enter university or other reasons.
But on the way to learn Russian language there are obstacles in form of the alphabet, cases and
other grammatical features of the Russian language. So I have developed a system of 10 lessons that
will make it easier to get acquainted with Russian language.
After 10 lessons students will be able to talk about themselves and maintain a simple dialogue.
During the 10 lessons I speak with students only in Russian language, using sign language and writing
on the blackboard in Latin letters.
The students learn phrases quickly, they listen to intonation and communication develops fast.
The game form of learning helps a lot and breaks down barriers.
In the first lesson we work out phrases for Greeting and Goodbye.
The students understand that to each other they can say : ‘Privyet’ (Привет), ‘Poka’ (Пока). But to adults they don’t know well, or are older than them, they need to say: ‘Zdravstvuite’ (Здравствуйте), ‘Do svidania’ (До свидания).
The students work in pairs. Then I add the contraction : ‘Kak tebya zovut?’ (Как тебя зовут?) – ‘What is your name?’. Answer: ‘Menya zovut…….’ (Меня зовут…..’ – ‘My name is…….’
In the next lesson I add the contraction : ‘Otkuda ty priekhal’ (Откуда ты приехал?) – Where did you come from?.
Each lesson we start with repetition and I add the new phrases contractions.
After ten lessons the students are able to form dialogues in which they talk about themselves and at the same time they learn about the student they are paired with.
In order to brighten up the training I use creative activity – such as decorating ‘Matryoshka’ (Матрешкa) – a Russian wooden toy in form of a painted doll inside which there are smaller dolls like it – and sing Russian songs such as ‘Katyusha’ (Катюша) and ‘Podmoskovnye vechera’ (Подмосковные вечера), and recite short poems.
After ten lessons, for students who decide to continue to learn Russian, I introduce the Russian alphabet into the learning process.
